The St. Olavs Ways to Nidaros is now to be developed through a four year 2007–2010 national project aimed at improving the waymarking, infrastructure and information of the pilgrim ways through a “Pilot project Pilgrim Way”. The project was established by the Directorate for Cultural Heritage and is managed by Nidaros Diocese. The website www.pilgrim.info is now a part of the project.
More information will follow.
The aim of the former Project Pilgrim Ways 2003–2006 co–operation and projects where:
- Open⁄accessible paths⁄tracks
- Available lodging and refreshments
- Organised walks, stage by stage
- Appropriate reception⁄welcome
- User–friendly information
The vision behind this is the desire to convey values connected with nature, culture and the significance meaning of the pilgrim paths.
Central to this is making people aware of the Olav traditions in Norway and the Nordic countries, and giving general information about our cultural heritage. This carries forward the work of "Norwegian Heritage" in safeguarding the cultural landscape through its active and viable use.
This cooperation has resulted in:
- Organised walks offered along the Pilgrim`s Ways
- Better marking along parts of the way
- Documentation and description of pilgrim paths and the Olav tradition
- Development of website "Pilgrim Ways to Nidaros"
- Projects connected to development of the Pilgrim Ways and the Olav tradition
This work is on going and has a long term perspective. The 10–year jubilee in 2007 is an important milestone with room for many things. And the 1000 years jubilee in 2030 is a great inspiration!
